SMC's Sustainability Week Recap

On Oct. 16-19, 2017, Santa Monica College’s Center for Environmental and Urban Studies, along with other multiple environmental clubs, pulled together a week of events promoting and educating students on environmental issues ranging from organic eating, carbon footprint, and reducing the use of plastic.

Sustainability Week comes around every semester with clubs including Eco-Action Club, Club Row, and Plastic Free SMC, volunteering to bring about awareness on sustainability.

The Corsair talks with students, club members, and Sustainability Week participants to recap each day concerning all things climate change.

Day 1: Students Feeding Students, a free farmers markets for students to try food demos on organic groceries.

Day 2: Sustainability Fair, numerous non-profit green organizations offering internship and volunteer opportunities for SMC students to get involved in environmental action.

Day 3: Ribbon Cutting and Art Show, Soka Gakkai International visits SMC in support of sustainable development.

Day 4: Workshops, various ICC clubs teaching students how their club intertwines with promoting climate sustainability.
