SMC’s offense finally woke up and put together an 11-play drive together that would go a total of 59 yards which was capped off by quarterback Forrest Brock 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Myles Parker and after a successful two-point conversion the score was 23 to 8, Santa Barbara. The Vaqueros answered right back with a 4-play drive that ended with quarterback Alex Johnson 27-yard touchdown pass to running back Cameron Woolsey, which made the score 30 to 8 Santa Barbara, with 12:31 left in the second quarter.
Through the rest of the second quarter, Santa Monica was able to score six more points however gave up 21 points to Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara would lead 51-14 after scoring two quick touchdowns before the end of the second quarter.
Coming out half-time, the Corsairs gave up two more touchdowns to the Vaqueros in the third quarter. The Corsairs did not go down without a fight, finding the end-zone two more times, both being touchdown passes thrown by quarterback Michael Cruz. Due to mistakes made on both sides of the ball early in the game, the Corsairs were unable to chip into the Vaqueros lead and would lose the game at the end 65-27.
Head Coach Kelly Ledwith said he didn’t feel like one phase of the game lost it for his team.
“They were a really good team and we knew it was going to be hard. So we came up with a couple of really aggressive game plans to give us a puncher's chance and they were a good team and they played well. It's hard to you know, they're on a nine game winning streak heading into the bowl games,” Ledwith said.
Coach Ledwith also talked about the season overall and the enjoyment he got from coaching the team.
“This is a really fun team to coach. They love football. They played hard for each other. The games didn't go nearly like we had hoped they would. But it was a really enjoyable team to coach and I'm really, I really enjoyed that part of it,” Ledwith said.
The Corsairs head into the offseason with a 1-4 conference record and 2-8 record overall.
