Back-to-Back Ties
Men’s ended their match 3-3 against Norco and women’s had a score of 1-1 against LA Pierce.
The Santa Monica College Corsairs Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams played their second home games of the season back-to-back on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Both games were played on Corsair Field with the men’s team looking for their second home win and the women's for their first win at home after their tie against Pasadena City College.
The men played the first game of the day against the Mustangs from Norco College. Both sides played an even match in defense. The Mustangs maintained a majority of the possession and kept the pressure on the Corsairs side and within their goalie box. The first goal came from midfielder Roey Kivity within the 20th minute, giving the Corsairs the lead against the Mustangs.
During the second half, the Corsairs doubled their lead after a goal from Philip Hephzibah. The Mustangs then scored three goals in a span of thirty minutes after Hephzibah’s goal. By then, the Corsairs had roughly 15 minutes left to score a tying goal, with the Mustangs pressing hard on defense. The final goal was marked when Kivity got his second goal for the Corsairs late in the game, ending it with a 3-3 score.
Following the men’s match was the women’s match against the Brahma Bulls from Los Angeles Pierce College. Both sides played hard defense and offense, leaving the first half scoreless. Within that half however, the Corsairs were left down a player after a red card was given to Izzy Turner.
Within four minutes after the start of the second half, the Corsairs got the lead from a goal by Tia Lucas. They held onto the lead until the 87th minute of the game, when the Bulls’ May Htet Lu scored the tying goal for the match, ending in a 1-1 tie.
The Corsairs’ next men’s match will be played against Chaffey College at 4 p.m., and the women’s against Long Beach City College at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be on Friday, Sept. 15 at Corsair Field.
