Dodgers’ 2024 World Series Win Sparks A Citywide Celebration

On Oct. 30, the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the 2024 World Series in Game 5 against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York City. The Dodgers played strong from the beginning, maintaining a 3-0 lead after winning both games at home and the first match in New York. In Game 4, the Dodgers could not outlast the Yankees’ growing momentum as they forced a fifth game.

After trailing behind the Yankees (0-5), it seemed the Yankees were going to force a sixth game. The Dodgers were able to find their own momentum and score three clutch runs in the top of the fifth inning (3-5). Dodgers’ first baseman and World Series MVP Freddie Freeman successfully secured a base hit that allowed for Dodgers’ utility Tommy Edman and catcher Will Smith to score for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers were able to successfully tie the match in the top of the fifth, as Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández scored another base hit that allowed shortstop Mookie Betts and Freeman to secure two more runs. Despite the Yankees scoring another run, the Dodgers continued to maintain their momentum, with outfielder Kike Hernández securing another run after a sacrifice fly by second baseman Gavin Lux.

The Dodgers took the lead in the top of the seventh, with a sacrifice fly by Betts allowing Smith to score yet again. The game resulted in the Dodgers being able to take a one run lead (7-6). In the bottom of the ninth, Dodgers’ pitcher Walker Buehler was able to strike out the Yankees, securing the eighth World Series for the Dodgers franchise. The Dodgers had the largest comeback win in a clinching game after trailing 0-5.

Dodger fans celebrated throughout L.A. county late Wednesday night with fireworks and street takeovers. On Whittier Boulevard in East L.A., fans were spread across, waving flags, cheering from vehicles and riding motorcycles. The L.A. County Sheriff's Department began to disperse the crowd slightly after midnight due to a brush fire.

Several downtown Los Angeles streets were closed after several citizens in Echo Park vandalized a Metro Bus on Sunset Boulevard. Police arrived shortly on the scene and utilized foam bullets in an attempt to disperse the crowd, according to KTLA 5 News.
The Dodgers will be celebrating with a parade on Friday, Nov. 1. The parade route begins at City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles and commences at 11 a.m. The Dodgers will also be hosting a separate, ticketed event at Dodger Stadium to celebrate. For more information, fans can click here.
