Socks! Socks! Socks!

Santa Monica, Calif. - On Tuesday, April 1, Santa Monica College (SMC) Foundation’s Katie Moe, Alonzo Campos and student Roman Lascala, gave away socks during the SMC Start Up and Midterm Motivation event held on the Main Quad. The socks were bright neon colors of pink and yellow, and muted colors of gray, green and purple. Each person picked up three pairs, and the foundation plans to continue to give socks away - all 8000 pairs of them.
After the Los Angeles County fires, the SMC Foundation gathered resources and donations and held a four-day food and clothing distribution event to aid those impacted by the disaster. One donation, thousands of pairs of new socks from donor DoubleSoul, arrived late. The Foundation received four pallets of socks after the distribution had ended. Nevertheless, the Foundation decided to give the socks away to students.
Katie Moe, development director at the Foundation, said she expressed appreciation to the donors, acknowledging their generous support and the impact to the relief efforts. The Foundation plans to keep distributing these socks to students in upcoming events until they are all gone.
