Letter to the Editor: A Look Back at the Corsair
As the Fall 2019 semester comes to a close, I find myself with strong feelings of melancholy and want to use this time to look back at a long, somewhat tumultuous semester that still seemed to go by in a blink of an eye.
This is my second and final semester at The Corsair, and I find myself looking back through this semester’s print editions. I’m reminded of how unique each semester really is. Yes, some things did not go well; yes, we hit a few speed bumps; and yes, we had a changing of the guard. But, we overcame it all and made many memories along the way. We persevered and did the best we could while learning on the fly.
As we move closer to the end of the semester, it has become apparent that this is an end of an era for The Corsair. A new era will begin in the Spring semester as it almost always does. As it stands, only a handful of editors will be returning to reprise their roles on the paper.
To those editors returning, please guide the new staff and pass on all that we have learned this semester from both our successes and failures. And know that those of us who will stop by from time to time will hold you accountable to this. To the advisors, thank you for your guidance and knowledge, both in the fields of journalism and in life itself. However, I will leave you with this bit of advice: please listen to the concerns of your editorial board when they are brought to your attention. To those of us who will not be returning, always remember this place is home. I know most of us didn’t believe this at first but this place truly becomes home.
I have yet to imagine what it will be like without the newsroom, without the ability to stay hours after class to just relax and be with friends. And please stay in contact, hopefully one day we will all be able to work together in our respective fields and careers. To the staff, we successfully produced seven print editions and produced as many articles as we could online. I am, just as we all are, immensely proud of the work we were able to accomplish this semester.
Thank you for all the wonderful memories that I will always cherish and good luck with what is to come. You all will do amazing.
I Love You All
