Suspect who allegedly shoots wife fatally wounded by police
On Friday night, Santa Monica Police had a deadly shootout with a domestic violence suspect. The suspect shot at police officers who returned fire, resulting in the suspects death. At 6:12 p.m., Santa Monica Police Department received a call of "shots fired" around 7th and Santa Monica. "Police Department responded within minutes to the scene and found a female victim down with multiple gun shot wounds," said Captain Wendell Shirley to assembled press at the scene. The female victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
"A description of the suspect was put out and officers immediately began to canvas the area, searching for the suspect. In the area of 1400 block on 9th Street several officers ran into the suspect and ordered him at gunpoint to freeze and go to the ground," said Shirley.
The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot at the police officer. The officers felt threatened and promptly responded. The suspect was shot and pronounced dead on the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident. No civilians were injured excluding the individuals described above. The investigation is still in process and anybody with information should contact the Santa Monica Police Department.
