Clubs and students and costumes, oh my!
Hundreds of students filled the Quad of Santa Monica College’s main campus Thursday to participate in Club Row, a bi-annual event featuring booths from over 50 campus clubs. The clubs set up the tables to recruit students to their causes, enticing them with food, drinks and elaborate decorations in anticipation of Halloween.
Students dressed up too. Jason from Halloween showed his support for AB540 students at IDEAS while a student in a dressed as a doctor tried to lure students into the Psychology Club.
“Go large or go home,” says Co-Advisor for the Student Veterans Association, Martha Romano. The club raises awareness for the 700 veterans currently attending Santa Monica College and connects them with the various opportunities available to them.
Clubs of all sizes were looking to attract new members. The bicycle club (which currently only has five members) was hoping to attract a dozen people to their group. Vice President Taris Rodriguez says biking is a “fun and active way of getting around.” She said the club also wants to promote a conscious way of life.
Alpha Gamma Sigma, a group that has already reached this semester’s maximum members, was hoping to start registering members for the Spring semester.
The club chose Zombie Rockers for their theme displayed by webs, caution tape, fake blood and Guns and Roses paraphernalia The group aims to help students with their academic goals while serving the community and making connections with fellow Corsairs.
