Santa Monica College has a new president

Santa Monica College's search for a new president and superintendent has finally come to a close. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously yesterday evening to appoint Kathryn E. Jeffery, PhD. to the position, which she is expected to fill in spring of 2016.

Jeffery's 39-year career includes involvement on many professional and community boards, such as:

-The California Community College Athletic Association

-The CEO Board of the President's Round Table

-West Sacramento Early College Preparatory Charter School

-U.S. Department of Education Task Force

-Commission on Academic, Student, and Community Development appointed by the American Association of Community Colleges.

She has also been President at Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota, Chief Campus Administrator at the College of Southern Nevada, Vice President of Columbia College in the Yosemite College District, and Dean for Faculty and Staff Diversity/Development and Dean for Student Services at the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office.

In a press release issued Tuesday, Board of Trustees Chair Rob Rader described Jeffery as "a passionate creative and inspirational leader-one who has proven over her prolific career to be a true advocate for students."
