In February, LeBron James expressed his support for Colin Kaepernick by wearing a jacket with Kaepernick's number on it and spreading his message of fighting against the social injustice American minorities face. It was a small gesture but one that clearly pointed that James supports Kaepernick's cause. So it came as a shock when James criticized Houston Rockets General Manager, Daryl Morey, who did something similar by tweeting support for the Hong Kong protesters.

By legal definition, Facebook and Alphabet are not monopolies. Facebook doesn't have a stranglehold on online communication, as there are other ways of connecting to others through sites or apps like Discord, Twitter, or even Snapchat. Google is the most dominant search engine in the world but there are others like Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo. Facebook and Google aren't the only options in their respective industries, but while they aren't technically monopolies, this doesn't stop them from engaging in monopolistic behavior.

However, with the US recently forcing the UN Security Council to rewrite a resolution on sexual violence in wartime to essentially prohibit abortions, this is now forcing other countries to follow a pro-life stance; a stance that has no plan for the amount of issues that come with childbirth and care.

When we have L.A sheriffs talk about mass shootings as "the new normal," we may have become complacent when it comes to gun control. Tragedies like Sandy Hook and Parkland were meant to be the spark to ignite change, to make sure that no man, woman, child would lose their lives to crazy people with guns.

If there's one thing I've learned in my time in the Corsair newspaper and journalism classes, it's that news stories, above everything else, need to make people care. Whether it's about a small neighborhood or a major national event, the first thing you need to do is make people want to read your story. However, we might've reached a point where our news consumption is doing more harm than good.

As much progress as Americans have made in how they discuss sex, there are still areas that lack progress, such as sexual education. We've even progressed in how we treat violent media, even though we've taken some steps back in some cases. But I find it ridiculous how our country cannot properly set a standard for both.
