$10 TUESDAY: The Cutting Board

It was a morning just like any other. I was in a rush so I looked for a place to grab a quick breakfast near Santa Monica College and came across The Cutting Board on Ocean Park Blvd. Tucked away in a business park between Centinela Ave. and 31st St., this little eatery is on the way to the Bundy campus from the SMC main campus..  It was hard to find, as it’s exterior is an office building, but once I found it I was in for a treat. I ordered the breakfast special for only $3.79. It came with two eggs (done to my liking), two slices of toast complete with butter and jam, and a choice of meat (bacon, ham, or sausage). The dish was excellent, simple, and most importantly, cheap.

My friend ordered the Veggie Burrito. I tried it and, must say, it was delicious. It had a grilled veggie patty, eggs, cheddar cheese and came with salsa on the side.

Our food tasted like a home cooked meal. The service was quick and because the food is made-to-order, it tasted fresh.

Won and Sunny Kim, the husband and wife duo who own the restaurant, hail from Korea and opened this mom-and-pop restaurant on January 2nd, 1990. Their menu offers a wide variety of plates to choose from and everything is less than $7. They are warm-hearted, their service is extremely friendly, and the food is undeniably delicious. This establishment is worth your small bills, will satisfy your hunger, and put a lasting smile on your face.

The Cutting Board is located at 3330 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90405. It is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Indoor and outdoor seating is available to customers, although take-out seems to be the popular choice. It is cash only but there is a Bank of America located in the same business complex. The Big Blue Bus Line 8, which runs along Ocean Park Blvd., takes you there in about five minutes from the SMC main campus. There is a parking lot on site but validation is necessary for one hour parking.
