The Culinary Guide to Your Allergy Needs

Thanks to a current trend in today’s culture, people are becoming a bit obsessed with eating at vegan and gluten-free restaurants. This makes it better for those of us who have allergies to foods containing ingredients such as dairy, eggs, soy, nuts….and the list goes on! Restaurants accommodating these conditions are popping up left and right these days. I narrowed down some of the best allergy- friendly restaurants in Los Angeles. Of course, to be safe you should always tell your server about any food allergies before ordering. Once you read this list, go out and try these tasty new places!

The 100% plant-based, vegan cuisine restaurant opened its doors this year in Silverlake next to the new 365 Whole Foods store. It's their first West Coast location. While grocery shopping, customers can take a break and eat at this trendy new spot. Their go-to item is their Classic Burger and Sweet Potato Fries. For those who are gluten-free, request the gluten free bun! And to those who have a soy allergy, do not worry because more than half of the items on the menu do not contain any soy!

Trying to find a delicious pizza while having food allergies is pretty tough. Fortunately, there is a pizza place across from the Third Street Promenade that is what celiac dreams are made of. Their gluten-free crust is rolled to perfection and their vegan cheese melts in your mouth. Warning: If you are allergic to dairy, do not try the pesto sauce! It still contains cheese!

Since 2013 this quirky donut shop has become a hit with LA and especially its music community. Mark Trombino, a former record producer for Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, and many other bands opened Donut Friend in the up-and-coming town of Eagle Rock. Donut Friend specializes in gourmet and made-to-order donuts. Be sure to look at the donuts names, as they are all punned references to famous artists and bands!

At the corner of Melrose and Sweetzer in West Hollywood is Crossroads. Their Mediterranean-inspired small plates menu allows guests to order much more and get a taste of everything on the menu. Currently, Crossroads is in the press because of the Impossible Burger that frequently is sold-out. The Impossible Burger is meat-free and tastes, smells, and even bleeds like a real burger.
