Lowcock grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from St Edward University in Photo Communication in 1987.

After teaching photography at Pierce College for three years, Lowcock joined the SMC faculty in 1992 and has traught full time here since 1997, helping develop "the strongest commercial photography program in the region".

For Lowcock, photography "is both a vocation and a love."
