2 men shot in alley on Michigan, 1 dead

Elizabeth Moss, News Editor One of the two men hospitalized after being shot in a Santa Monica alley Tuesday morning has died, police said.

The shooting took place just a few blocks from Santa Monica College.

At approximately 8 a.m., the men, in their 20s, were in an alley on 16th Street and Michigan Avenue when a vehicle described as royal blue with two people inside pulled into it, said Sgt. Richard Lewis of the Santa Monica Police Department.

A man stepped out of the car and proceeded to shoot before driving away.

The two victims, both Hispanic, sustained multiple shots to the upper torso, and were transferred to a local trauma center to undergo surgery.

Police are looking for a male suspect in his 20s or 30s. So far, no suspect has been apprehended.

Tonight's graduation at Santa Monica College will not be affected, Chief Albert Vasquez of the Santa Monica College Police Department confirmed.

This appears to be related to a shooting that took place on Sunday, the third shooting in Santa Monica in just four days. Police do not know if this incident is gang related. The investigation is ongoing.
