Blues guitarist, Samantha Fish, played to a sold out crowd last Friday at The Troubadour. On tour to promote her new album, Kill Or Be Kind, which was released on September 20th, she played back-to-back nights at the West Hollywood venue.
35th Annual Abbot Kinney Festival
The 35th Abbot Kinney Festival took place this past Sunday, September 29th, on Abbot Kinney Blvd., in Venice. The festival featured over 350 vendors, including local businesses of all types, craft booths (art, clothing, jewelry, etc.), and a variety of kids' rides and games.
SMC Hosts Former CA Poet Laureate Dana Gioia
Choosing to ditch his microphone and orate directly to the audience, Gioia presented testimonies to the art of experience and the passing of time. The poems Hot Summer Nights and Psalm of the Heights explore a tableau of the city; each experience is unique, including dynamic and entangled relationships. The poems meditate on the human condition from a point of observation and reflection.
The Return of IndieCade; Year two
Indiecade, an independent video game festival, comes to SMC's CMD for the second year in a row. IndieCade Festival, an event showcasing independent games and their creators, will be occupying Santa Monica College’s (SMC) Center for Media and Design (CMD) for the second year in a row, from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12.
Math Therapy for Adalante Students and Black Collegians
Math Therapy is a combined effort of the Adalante and Black Collegians communities to specifically help African American and Latino students at Santa Monica College (SMC). Math faculty, tutors and counselors meet with students every Thursday in the Letters and Sciences Building, Room 105 to eliminate math barriers, provide free math resources, and help prepare for math assessments and exams.
SCREAMFEST: Horror Film Festival
Screamfest, a film festival dedicated to terror, will be presenting an abundance of horror films throughout Oct. 8-17, purposely causing blood-curdling screams all throughout the night.

César Chavez was a famed California farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist. His son, Eduardo Chavez screened his feature documentary, "Hailing César," on Thursday, Sep. 26 as part of Santa Monica College's (SMC) Social Justice series.
Alumni Exhibition Raises Money for Hungry Students
The SMC Photography Department and SMC Foundation hosted the opening reception of the Alumni Exhibition Silent Auction on Saturday, Sept. 28. The exhibition, running from Sept. 29 through Oct. 25, comprises selected submissions of graduated alumni. The silent auction will remain open to bids until 5 p.m. on Oct. 25, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting food insecure SMC students.
The ‘Golden Age of Arcade Gaming’ Visits Union Station
The Retrocade Experience returned for the second year in a row at Union Station’s ticketing concourse in Downtown Los Angeles for the weekend of Sept. 28 to 29. Retrocade Experience is an event that allows visitors to play a classic collection of over 50 arcade games and specialty pinball cabinets including many fan favorites such as “Mortal Kombat,” “Pac Man,” “Asteroids,” and “Centipede.” Last year’s event had only about 40 arcade games available.
Disney Plus: A New All-in-One Entertainment Destination
Disney+ is an upcoming streaming service owned by the Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International Division of The Walt Disney Company. The service will be filled with content from Disney's main entertainment studios, including Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, National Geographic, and includes some films from 20th Century Fox.
Louis Vuitton Exhibition
Louis Vuitton is a name that has stood the test of time for over a century. In honor of 160 years, Louis Vuitton’s Brand Representative decided it was time to educate society about the global fashion empire’s history, and came up with a global exhibit known as Louis Vuitton X. This exhibit will be on 468 N Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills and go from June 28th to November 10th. Many of these global exhibits feature collaborations with Louis Vuitton and famous artists from around the world.

Walls are Built to be Broken
Architect, artist and designer Candy Chang, alongside writer and graphic designer James A. Reeves, are responsible for creating the Annenberg Space for Photography’s first ever public art installation to hit the streets of Los Angeles. This installation was made up of three walls, which were located at different landmarks across the city. Each wall represented a different emotion.
Santa Monica "Coasts" at Open Street Festival
Bikes, skateboards, and rollerblades cruised the shut-down streets of Downtown Santa Monica in celebration of the annual COAST Festival on Sunday, Sept. 15. The city closed sections of Ocean Avenue, Colorado Esplanade, and Main Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide a car-free space for people to ride freely.
