Santa Monica College Loses To Riverside 77-68 In Regional Finals of The State Playoffs
In all too familiar territory on March 7, the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs once again faced off against Riverside City College Tigers in the Regional Finals of the State Playoffs. Last season, these two teams competed against each other in the same round (SMC won 66-54), which brought more anticipation to the match. For Riverside, they were back with vengeance facing an opponent from last year. For SMC, it was simply about getting to the next round, with big aspirations to get to the Finals of the State Playoffs.

Honoring Our Black Athletes
Today’s black athletes carry a big responsibility, believe it or not, they are much more than someone who shoots a basketball, who catches or throws a football, or is even able to hit a 90 plus mph fastball into the stands. They carry the legacies of the Bill Russell’s, Kareem Abdul-Jabar’s, Muhammed Ali’s, Jackie Robinsons’, Laila Ali’s, Doug Williams, and Lisa Leslie. Some of the greatest, most iconic African-American athletes to not only grace their respective sports, but become positive influences in the community.
Table Tennis Olympic Trials to Be Held At SMC
The Santa Monica College (SMC) campus will be hosting the Olympic Trials for Table Tennis event from Feb. 27 through March 1 in the Corsair Gym starting at 11 a.m. Over 100 male and female athletes from the United States will compete head-to-head for a spot on the Olympic team in the Summer 2020 games in Tokyo, Japan. This marks the second time SMC has hosted an intercollegiate event. Last year the school hosted the Pan American Trials games.
Corsairs Hold Off A West LA Rally In Second Half To Win 91-81 As They Head To State Playoffs
In their final game of the season the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs faced the West LA Wildcats on February 21, 2020. It was a rematch from a prior matchup earlier in the season which the Corsairs lost against their conference rival 80-75. SMC was able to avenge their loss, and get a win as they look forward to State playoffs.
Corsair Women's Basketball Loses Final Game of the Season Against West LA 83-76
On a highly emotional sophomore night, Santa Monica College (SMC) women’s basketball team came into the final game of the season with a record of (11-16). The Corsairs were faced against West LA College (10-17), who gave SMC trouble in their last match, which resulted in a loss for SMC.
#12 SMC Loses Back-to-Back Against Conference Rival #14 LA Valley 73-64
On February 15, 2020 the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs faced off against LA Valley Monarchs in a conference matchup that could have some playoff implications for both teams, as they are both three games away from the postseason. The match ended in a Corsairs loss 73-64, their next match is away against Glendale February 19 at 7:00pm.
SMC Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped In 83-77 Loss to Citrus
Riding a three-game win streak, the Santa Monica College Corsairs faced off against conference rival 17-7 Citrus College. The game was big for both teams as they are looking to make their playoff push. The Corsairs ended up falling to Citrus 83-77, and a 18-7 record.

Our Sports Editor pens a personalized letter to one of the greatest players to have played in the NBA from a perspective as a Boston Celtics fan, and a Los Angeles native. The passing of Laker legend Kobe Bryant on January 26, 2020 due to a helicopter accident has left the entire NBA community and the city of Los Angeles in disbelief, and pain even a few days after the incident. Kobe Bryant was able to bring joy to Los Angeles with his highlight reel dunks, and his five NBA titles. Thank You, Kobe.

Corsairs Women’s Basketball Hold on To Defeat Bakersfield 78-67
In their first Conference matchup of the season on Jan. 08, the Santa Monica College Corsair Women’s basketball team took on the Bakersfield City College Renegades in what turned out to be a close one as the Corsairs were able to edge out the win 78-67.
Santa Monica College Resources Available For Student Athletes
Santa Monica College (SMC) is home to 16 sports teams, 30,000 students, and a variety of student-athletes with various backgrounds. From basketball players to swimmers, student-athletes could always use guidance during their careers one way, or another. SMC has the necessities for their athletes to succeed, in and out of the classroom. Coaches, staff members, and athletic directors do all they can for athletes to get to the next level and pursue their careers.
