Corsairs Tied Up with Vaqueros
With soccer season winding down, and coming off of a 1-1 tie with L.A. Harbor last week, the Santa Monica Corsairs hosted the Santa Barbara Vaqueros. Both teams came with one of the best records in the conference, battling out for a for the top spot in the division.
The game ended in a 0-0 tie with the Corsairs moving to 11-1-4 of the season. The Corsairs had some open opportunities, but were unable to connect. The goalkeeper duo of Marek Strzelczyk and Jesus Alcazar made a total of seven saves, while Santa Barbara's goalkeeper made three saves in a tight defensive contest.
The game ended on a controversial whistle signaling the end of the game, hence the reason why the score ended in a tie.
The Corsairs finished with a tie for the second consecutive game. When asked about the end result, Corsairs Head Coach Tim Pierce said, "I think it was a fair result. We're only sitting at one loss ... and puts us still in a good position to go into second half of the season and potentially go after the conference title."
The two teams will meet again in the Corsairs last game of the season in Santa Barbara, but for now the Corsairs will try to get back in the win column when they take on Moorpark College on Friday Oct. 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Moorpark, California.
