BREAKING: CMD Closed After Someone Sprayed Chemicals
Santa Monica College’s (SMC) Center for Media and Design is temporarily closed as cleaning crews try to remove a mysterious chemical substance that was sprayed on the carpets late last night.
According to eyewitnesses, a strong chemical smell began at approximately 11 p.m. Thursday. “We just know that an unknown individual sprayed something on the carpet,” SMC District Chief of Police, Johnnie Adams told The Corsair, “but that it is not hazardous.”
The SMC District is advising students to contact their teachers to find out if classes have been cancelled. “The fire department came out and deemed it clean, it’s just a very perfumey odor that gives some people headaches,” Adams said. “So they wanted to make sure the carpet is shampooed first.”
The Santa Monica Police Department has announced that CMD campus will reopen this afternoon at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 5.
