She arrived at SMC in 2017 not knowing what position she would play and, then was placed as a defender. Her soccer influence came from her father, who played in his home country of Guatemala, and her older brother. They all share the number 11 on the field because it’s a family favorite. Montepeque has been playing soccer since she was six years old and says, “if soccer was not a part of my family I feel like I would be a different person.”

After two successful soccer seasons with the Corsairs, Montepeque earned her way to a scholarship at Kansas Wesleyan University. She will begin training this summer with the new team to prepare for the fall season. The coaching and experience with the Corsairs has helped her prepare for the new journey. “Being a part of the Corsairs was about working together to accomplish something big, and the coaching from Aaron Benditson helped us to work hard and not get over our heads.”
