A Clean Sweep Until the End

Despite winning against Glendale, women’s volleyball struggled in final set.
On Friday, October 13, the Corsairs’ women's volleyball team played against the Glendale Community College Vaqueros at Corsair Gym. The Corsairs beat the Vaqueros 3-0.
The first set was close, but the Corsairs led the whole way, and finished it off 25-20. The second set was a blowout, with the Corsairs starting off 5-0 and eventually winning 25-12.
The last set was by far the closest. The Corsairs started slow and called a timeout after they went down 11-5. After the timeout, they improved their play, but Glendale held on to the lead and SMC was forced to call another timeout with the score 23-18.
After that timeout, whether it was something the coach said, or the encouragement from the home crowd, the Corsairs went on a 6-0 run and led 24-23. Ultimately, the Corsairs won the game 27-25.
After the match ended, when asked what was running through his mind during the game, Head Coach Christian Cammayo said, “We’re just battling against ourselves. And you know, that’s something that we preach. We preach readiness, and then it just became like a drill. It’s just about staying present, just fighting for each point.”
