SMC women’s soccer beats LA Valley in fourth conference win.

On Friday, the Corsairs women’s soccer team played against the Los Angeles Valley College Monarchs at Corsair Field. Continuing their undefeated conference streak this season, they beat the Monarchs with a solid 4-1 victory.

Both teams worked hard in the first half, though the Corsairs had some disappointment when a potential goal, shot by center midfielder Lia Agapitos, was disallowed. “It was a little shaky in the beginning, but we kept our cool, recollected ourselves, and then we started getting our goals in,” said Corsair defender Bella Velazco, who scored the first goal of the game.

The Monarchs started the second half with a goal of their own, but the Corsairs quickly eclipsed them with three more goals. “We just stayed disciplined and played our game,” said midfielder Vashti Zuniga, who scored two goals. Forward Alanis Rodriguez scored the Corsairs’ fourth and final goal.

Head Coach Aaron Benditson, pleased with the outcome, said, “We had some adversity, we had to fight back after conceding our first goal this conference. I think the girls really stayed together, and they showed a really good sense of sticking to the game plan in tough moments.”

Their next game is away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, against the Antelope Valley College Marauders at 12:30 p.m.
