One dead in motorcycle collision
Alexander Smollins, 22, suffered a fatal head wound Monday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a silver Toyota on Pico Boulevard at the intersection of 25th Street near Cloverfield, according to authorities. Streets were blocked off as police inspected the scene. Smollins died on-site, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Smollins was traveling eastbound on Pico Boulevard when he struck the driver's side of the Toyota, which was making a left turn off of 25th Street. The accident was reported at 1:03 p.m., according to Santa Monica Police Department.
The two male passengers in the Toyota were unharmed. The driver, 26, was issued a field sobriety test by the SMPD, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press. Drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
Pico Boulevard from Cloverfield to 25th Street was re-opened to normal traffic Monday 6:30 p.m. after the scene was cleared, according to the Santa Monica Fire Department.
