Victory Slips from Lady Corsairs
For all their hard work this season, the Santa Monica women's soccer team's season ended in defeat on the field of Ventura College on Nov. 24. The Lady Corsairs lost by a score of 4-3.
SMC drew first blood when Midfielder "Mercy" Santos Tejada scored the first goal of the game. Ventura College tied the score and added another one when powerful forward Jaz Strozier scored two superb goals.
In the second half ,with both teams creating many scoring opportunities, SMC midfielder Xochitl Salgado tied the score by sending a corner kick straight through Ventura's net.
It was a memorable goal but it did not take long for the Lady Pirates to answer back and take the lead again with an equally amazing strike by midfielder Haley Wilson. Salgado brought her team back for a second time with another free kick.
The score remained tied and the clock sent the game into extra time. An additional goal by Alyssa McDonald in the first period was enough for the lady Pirates to prevail.
