Breast Cancer Awareness

Santa Monica College Athletics and Kinesiology departments celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Thursday, Oct. 16. Administrative assistant Francine Duran, a one-year survivor of breast cancer, spearheaded this cause after an SMC athlete recently underwent surgery after her own bout with cancer. "Young women are getting cancer at an alarming rate," said Duran. "I hope we can start a cancer support group at SMC.
With the huge support and turnout from our department today, I'm hoping it will happen." A pink ribbon signifying support for breast cancer will be up on the fence between the Corsair field and Physical Education building for the entire month of October.
