Up Close and Personal

SMC Professor of English Wilfred Doucet, faculty advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa community college student honor society, conferred with SMC student member and vice-president Maritess Manese in Science Bldg. Rm. 100 on Tuesday during a weekly meeting of the group. Doucet is "a native Angelino", graduating from Daniel Murphy High School, later attending St. Mary's College and SFSU, from which he received a Bachelor of Arts. Doucet subsequently received a Master of Arts from SBSU and is currently a PhD student at Claremont Graduate University. He has taught at SMC since 1998, believing SMC to have "the best students region-wide" and "a really strong campus community, serious about maintaining high academic standards". Doucet is a movie buff ("especially science fiction") who writes poetry and composition for publication, recently being honored with the Fernandes award for his ethnobiographic study of an ex-convict's reintegration to society.
