Charles Beck Sworn in as New LAPD Chief of Police

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa swears in Charles Beck as the 55th chief of the Los Angeles Police Department on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 as his family looks on. Standing in the background are Beck's son Martin, who recently graduated from the LAPD training academy, his daughter, Brandi Scimone, a patrol officer assigned to the Hollywood area and his wife, Cindy, a retired deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The swearing in happened across the street from City Hall, in the courtyard outside of the LAPD's new headquarters. The City Council voted unanimously for Beck.
