Last Monday on Lebron James’ HBO Show “The Shop,” California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill enacting major athletic reform in the state. Senate Bill 206 (SB 206) prohibits the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from barring an institution the ability to compete in an event if athletes are paid for their names and likenesses. The bill passed through the California Legislature unanimously.

Pedestrians, visitors, and curious tourists all stopped by at the Santa Monica Pier on Friday, Oct. 4 to observe the 2nd-Annual Pacific Park Taco Eating Championship at 11 a.m. Under the bright sky of an ocean morning, championship eaters consumed as many two-ounce carnitas tacos that they could ingest in eight minutes. 

The Santa Monica College Corsairs Women’s Soccer team fell to the Santa Barbara Vaqueros 2-1 for their first loss of the 2019 season September 24, 2019. This loss also marked an end to a home game winning streak of two games.

The SMC Corsair’s Women’s Volleyball team were looking to earn their first win of the season against Cuesta. In failing to do so, they fell to Cuesta in three sets making this their ninth straight loss in a winless season.

The Santa Monica College Corsairs fell to the Bakersfield Renegade 41-6 to open up their first home game of the regular season. Coming off of a 49-0 defeat from Desert prior, this marks a two-game losing streak with a total overall of 1-2.

The 33rd Nautica Malibu Triathlon gathered many participants including pro athletes and celebrities to help raise $1,352,603 million for the Children's Hospital Los Angeles(CHLA) Sunday September 15th

It's Santa Monica College (SMC) Aquatics coach Brian Eskridge's time to make a splash. 

Coming off of a bad scrimmage against West LA, Head Coach Kelly Ledwith and the Corsairs looked to turn things around against the Southwest Cougars in their season opening matchup. The Corsairs went on to handle the Cougars 32-6 in a lopsided game.

The Santa Monica College Corsairs Women’s Soccer team played against the The El Camino Warriors on August 30, 2019. SMC ended up winning the contest 5-0 against El Camino to start the season. The Corsairs are coming off a 2018 season where they had an early playoff exit.

The upcoming regular season spans 10 weeks and SMC has reason to be optimistic, but should also be playing with a sense of urgency. There is enough time for SMC to evaluate and self-scout between the end of August and their first regular season matchup with Southwest.

The Santa Monica College (SMC) Table Tennis team’s journey in the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association (NCTTA) ends in the Round of 16. They reached this far for the first time in the program’s 40-year history. They performed well in singles play, with one team member advancing to the quarterfinals. In doubles, the team advanced to the Round of 16.

The Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs Men’s Soccer team has a total of six athletes signing with four-year schools. In a span of three months, head coach Tim Pierce has announced six of his players, including captains Narcisco Cervantes and Cesar Oliva, have officially signed with universities.

The Swimming and Diving State Championships took place from May 2-4 at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif. In spite of injuries, Santa Monica College (SMC) placed seventh on the men's side. Matt Holt, who was the top-seeded swimmer in the mile event, was out with a concussion,

Santa Monica College (SMC) Sophomore and defender Jacqueline Montepeque has earned a scholarship to Kansas Wesleyan University. An early childhood education student, Montepeque is a back-to-back Western State Conference champion with the SMC Corsairs women’s soccer team.

Santa Monica College (SMC) soccer player Renee Escobar has received a full-ride scholarship to Cal State Dominguez Hills. As one of the older members of the team, Escobar didn’t anticipate being a great asset to the team. “I honestly never expect it,” said Escobar.

Filippa Struxsjo is a sophomore midfielder for the Santa Monica College (SMC) women’s soccer team. Struxsjo moved to Los Angeles from Finna, Sweden to play soccer and attend SMC. As the leading goal scorer for the Corsairs,

After being promoted as interim head coach seven games into the 2017 season, Kelly Ledwith has accepted to become the official Head Coach of The Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs football team for the 2019 season. Ledwith got his start at Fresno State as a student assistant. His first coaching job was at Cal Lutheran University.

The Santa Monica College Police Department (SMCPD) left their daily routine of vigilance for a morning of aprons, coffee, eggs and pancakes. SMCPD teamed up with the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) to raise money for the Southern California Special Olympics on Tuesday, April 23.

Santa Monica College's (SMC) Men's Swimming team won the Western Conference championship on Saturday, April 20 at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center in Santa Clarita, California. SMC finished with 710.5 points, while Ventura College scored 621 points. This is the Corsairs' first conference championship since 1990.
