Santa Monica College (SMC) is home to 16 sports teams, 30,000 students, and a variety of student-athletes with various backgrounds. From basketball players to swimmers, student-athletes could always use guidance during their careers one way, or another. SMC has the necessities for their athletes to succeed, in and out of the classroom. Coaches, staff members, and athletic directors do all they can for athletes to get to the next level and pursue their careers.

Preview of SMC Corsairs Women's Basketball

Laughter and excitement filled the Pavilion gym as the Santa Monica College (SMC) women’s basketball team kicked off their season with Media Day to reintroduce familiar faces and show new faces that are heading into the 2019-2020 season.

Although last season didn’t go as planned for the Corsairs, going 1-5 in Conference and 8-17 overall, this year's team isn’t letting that hold them back. With a new 15-woman roster, the Corsairs are planning on taking this season by surprise.

Governor Newsom Signs Bill Allowing College Athletes to be Paid

Last Monday on Lebron James’ HBO Show “The Shop,” California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill enacting major athletic reform in the state. Senate Bill 206 (SB 206) prohibits the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from barring an institution the ability to compete in an event if athletes are paid for their names and likenesses. The bill passed through the California Legislature unanimously.
